In 39 states in the U.S., it is legal for civilians to acquire a gun silencers, but it can take up to about a year to get through all the legal processes involved. Now, what exactly is a silencer? A silencer, better known as a suppressor, are attached to the barrels of guns in order to decrease sounds of gunfire. A company by the name of SilencerCo from West Valley City, Utah is now providing a legal counsel, known as EasyTrust, to help shorten the time it would take to purchase one for only $130. SilencerCo says using EasyTrust makes it so the buyer does not need buyer fingerprinting or to get a chief of law enforcement’s written approval. It also protects against potential future regulatory restrictions, allows for family members to use them, and provides an orderly transition of ownership when the owner is deceased. Because they are considered to be firearms by the federal government, they fall under the National Firearms Act. In purchasing a silencer, it is required to mail in a fingerprints, photo ID, and pay a $200 tax fee which can take up to 10 months to complete. However, because of companies like SilencerCo, the market for silencers is currently booming. In 2012, 360,000 silencers were sold and 285,000 were sold in 2011. Since the most recent study done in 2013, the selling rate is up 37%, which is half a million.

The Cleveland City Council has scheduled a vote for Monday on gun legislation that goes beyond current state law, a move that will likely face another round of court challenges. Some of the elements of the legislation being pushed by the city administration include requiring private sellers to report sales to police, prohibiting the concealed carry of handguns, which state law allows and requiring a gun owner to report a lost or stolen firearm to police. This will put even tighter restrictions on gun owners and is just another example of how our country is getting more and more strict with gun safety. Some could call it extreme and some could call it just being safe... What do you think???
http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/cleveland/2015/04/20/cleveland-city-council-to-vote-on-gun-legislation/26060443/ A recent issue regarding an Uber driver arose when he shot down a man open firing on a cloud in Logan Square. The Uber driver, a 47 year old man from Little Italy, provided the authorities with a legitimate concealed weapons permit and injured the shooter, 22 year old Everado Custodio. Custodio was charged with unlawful use of weapons charge and aggravated assault charges. The driver has been showing full compliance and is not seen as a threat but a hero to the community.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-uber-driver-shoots-gunman-met-0420-20150419-story.html There was a huge uprising of concealed weapons permits issued in Massachusetts with fear of the state putting more strict rules on already tight laws for guns. This fear caused an uprising of about 12% from 2013 to 2014 in the amount of permits that were issued. Overall, the number of active gun licenses grew about 5% in the last year (355,272 in total). Massachusetts is said to have the tightest gun laws according to the laws issued in 1998. Citizens are getting scared that the laws will only get tighter from here on out. They feel the need to protect their rights and get it done quickly... before its too late.

The 2016 presidential election is coming up since there was an earlier blog post which related to a Republic candidate named Ted Cruz I wanted to do a bit of research on what of the leading Democratic candidates for president, Hillary Clinton and her stance on gun control. Overall, she appears as an advocate for increased gun control but has limited herself as to not alienate voters. Here is a link to a description of some of her opinions on gun control along with other potential candidates

Although many people recognize the importance of gun control I feel that it is still an under discussed issue. This infograph grabbed my attention because it shows the total Americans killed by guns since 1968 compared to Americans who have died in wars since 1776. The number of deaths from guns is significantly higher! This infograph should come to the attention of more people and should increase the research of these issues for the average American.
With the upcoming presidential election in 2016, there will be many issues on hand with several being statistically more important than gun control to decide which candidate the voters will go for. However, gun control is an incredibly emotional issue and that can lead to the issue swinging votes depending on the stance each candidate has. Ted Cruz is a candidate for the GOP nomination and recently he spoke to a group of pro-gun individuals about his stance on guns and the relation of the second amendment to the foundation of this nation and the ideals it was built upon.

Within this nation gun control differs numerously among different states. For example, in all except for six states open carry handguns are allowed. However, in a state stereotypically known to be full of gun advocates it is banned to open carry handguns. However, rifles can be carried openly leading many gun rights enthusiasts to openly carry assault weapons in public places in an attempt to get open carrying handguns legalized. A link to the story:
